Farewell Spit Eco Tours

Take the Farewell Spit Eco Tour which, as well as exploring the spit, stops in Puponga and at the most northern point on the South island, Cape Farewell. From the cliff top, seals and their pups can be seen all year basking on the rocks below. At the Farewell Spit Lighthouse there is time to explore around the historic buildings and enjoy the refreshments provided in the century old lighthouse keeper’s residence. Climb a sand hills for panoramic views of the ocean beach, the parade of dunes along the centre of the spit and the inter-tidal plain where the migrant waders from the arctic circle feed during our spring summer and autumn. Large Gannet colonies can be seen over the summer period.

The Village Theatre

The Village Theatre is Golden Bay’s great little community in the heart of Takaka. Since its inception in 1984, Takaka’s iconic Village Theatre has put on a great show for Golden Bay movie-goers. Founded on generous donations of time, money and plain hard yakka, the rural cinema has not only survived but, in the hands of a charitable trust, has flourished into a star of the Bay’s quirky cultural scene.
